Abstract

An approach is presented for the correction of errors that appear during the transmission of information. This approach is based on the analysis of the information that is contained in the difference between the transmitter-side and the receiver-side weighted checksum. The approach is applied for the development of an algorithm for the correction of errors at the interface level. The theoretical channel model considered is the binary symmetric channel. The weighted checksum based approach is shown to produce significant gains in the bandwidth required for data retransmissions necessitated by existing error correction schemes.
