Abstract

The paper presents a model for metropolitan optical network design that relies on self organizing neural networks and graph theory adapted algorithms. The resulted network is a two layered hierarchical network; the first layer represents the core of the network and has a ring topology while the second layer has a tree topology with a maximum depth constraint. The model is aimed towards providing a close to optimal solution for large problem configurations that are unsolvable in polynomial time.
