Abstract

This paper describes an Internet-based virtual NC milling system. The model of virtual NC milling machine and 3D milling scene were established by using 3DS MAX and Virtual Reality Modeling Language (VRML), respectively. The dexel-based blank modeling method suitable for VRML language was developed. The interaction between Java Applet and VRML scene was realized by applying the External Authoring Interface (EAI) of VRML. An Internet-based virtual NC milling system named VMS-I was developed based on Tomcat service platform, which makes users vividly operate the virtual NC machine tool through Web browser. On a certain machining condition, the data of interest to users such as milling force and milled surface topography can be acquired. According to this system, the reasonability of the process parameters can be evaluated.
