In this contribution, a fast Frequency Domain Two-Dimensional Principal Component Analysis (FD2DPCA) algorithm is proposed for facial recognition. The algorithm has attractive properties with respect to computational complexity and storage requirements. The experimental results obtained by applying the new algorithm to the ORL and Yale databases, confirmed the significant reduction in the storage and computational requirements while retaining the excellent recognition accuracy of the spatial domain 2DPCA.
