The web can be the most efficient medium for sharing knowledge, provided appropriate technological artifacts such as controlled vocabularies and metadata are adopted. In our research we study the degree of such adoption applied to the systems engineering domain. This paper is a work in progress report discussing issues surrounding knowledge extraction and representation, proposing an integrated approach to tackle various challenges associated with the development of a shared vocabulary for the practice.
