Abstract

MPEG-7 specification introduces a new way of describing audio-visual content by the creation of descriptors which provide significant information about not only the content, but also the behavior of the multimedia information. In this paper we conducted a research about the applicability of available face recognition techniques to be used in MPEG-7 specification. We evaluated the main approaches of face recognition and we mainly focus to Eigenface approach. The approach is analyzed, in order to understand the philosophy of the technique and be able to discuss if it could be combined with the MPEG-7 specification.
