Abstract

This paper presents the initiative design research and projects for developing the public oriented application in China based on the technology of social networking and ubiquitous computing. Follow the blooming of social networking service; social media begin to intervene deeply into people's ordinary life in China. Designers need new methodologies to promote the social participation, connect the social media with real world, and then take an action in urban life. Collective intelligence will create new design thinking and opportunities for solving the complicated social and urban problems. Two public-oriented projects based on collective intelligence are showed as examples, and hope to form a new framework for the further design research in the context of ubiquitous computing.
