A real case of priority inversion in Avionics Computers is described, as well as the experiences in the decisions, implementation and testing of the Basic Priority Inheritance Protocol in an Ada 83 Run Time System. The increased overhead of this protocol is less than 1%, which makes it tolerable for Real Time Avionics Computers using Ada tasking. Ada 9X offerings in this field are also analysed and the conclusion is reached that the case described here should be revised in the new Ada.
