Abstract

This paper shows several concepts, widely known in simulation environments, applied in surgical education, with emphasis on computer graphics and image processing applications. The benefits of a training programme based on objective, simulated exercises are discussed as well as the flaws of such computer-assisted education systems. Examples of commercially available training systems are given and compared with solutions developed in research institutes.
