Abstract

Model Reference Adaptive Systems have been used more and more widely in the last few years to solve various control, parameter identification and state estimation problems. This survey paper tries to present in a systematic way the ''state of the art'' based on the literature published since 1964, 253 references. Attention is paid to the basic properties and the classification of various types of model reference adaptive systems. The most prominent design methods are reviewed; unresolved questions and future areas of investigation are also discussed. A survey of the applications already accomplished and those which appear feasible in the near future conclude the paper.
