Abstract

This paper examines the influence of rapid prototyping on the development life cycle of new telecommunications services (telematic services). After a brief introduction in the field of Teleinformatics (Telematics), the concept of prototyping is analysed. The main issues related to the design and management of telematic services are identified and the application of the rapid prototyping process to the area of telematic services is proposed. A relative methodology is then described following a procedural approach. The characteristics and main elements of this methodology are discussed in considerable detail. Finally, a number of important evaluation criteria are highlighted, an application of the proposed methodology is outlined, and some conclusions are given.
