This paper presents an approach, called the complementation approach, to synthesize protocol converters from its service specification. We describe the design procedure systematically and discuss the end results with other existing conversion procedures. An example is used to illustrate the method. The converter is also implemented and verified using a semiautomatic Estelle-C compiler.
