Abstract

A mathematical description of information flow in continouous processing media is offered. A large set of interconnected processors (a network) is modeled as a continuous processing media with distributed storage, relay, and computing properties. With certain assumptions on criteria for information exchange between processors and for the system input-output, it is shown that the storage utilization rates satisfy a system of partial differential equations. Numerical solutions were used to investigate certain important problems such as propagation of ''big jobs,'' etc.
