Recently, developing a U-City as an integrated set of ubiquitous space services has been regarded as a promising field in realizing ubiquitous computing technology. However, researchers lack well-organized U-City requirement analyses to declare what specific kinds of ubiquitous space services are needed. Additionally, system developers also lack reliable strategies to determine which ubiquitous computing technologies to incorporate in order to meet the U-City users' needs. Hence, the dual goals of this paper are to propose a set of unique U-City construction philosophies, and to analyze which services should be offered in the U-Cities ubiquitous space services. To analyze U-City success factors, we used a CSF methodology to conduct a field survey of individuals who are potential end users of the ubiquitous space services. We then conducted focused group interviews with professionals in the ubiquitous computing technology field in Korea to identify the inter-relationships between ubiquitous space services and the associated critical success factors.
