This paper presents a set of design guidelines for the use of information visualization techniques and non-speech sounds such as auditory icons and earcons in email browsing. These guidelines were derived based on a previous experimental work consisted of three experimental phases, each phase aimed at investigating different aspects of email browsing. Several key points were covered in these guidelines such as the presentation of email information, finding email information and using audio metaphors for communicating email information.
