As a musical instrument, the human voice offers a significant range in terms of sonic results. Control of this particular instrument is aided by a natural familiarity, and it takes little concentration to quickly produce sounds of vastly differing musical characteristics. The advent of computer music has afforded manipulative processing that delivers auditory results that would never be attainable in the natural world. This project attempts to bridge the gap between natural generation of vocal sounds, and complex digital processing, by developing a simple, ergonomic instrument that places control of the sonic output in the hands of the artist.
