Abstract

A computer-vision based system was used to obtainimages of shredded cheese. The images were processedby morphological transformation algorithms such asdilation and erosion to smooth the image edgecontours. The smoothed image was skeletonized. Cheese shred lengths were determined from skeletonizedimages using syntactic methods. This method wassuccessful in recognizing individual shreds even whenshreds were touching or overlapping. Shred lengthscalculated from the processed images compared verywell with those measured manually.
