Abstract

Cross-hole seismic tomography has been used to detect anomalies in subsurface geological formations. In this paper, we present a genetic algorithmic approach for the detection of specific anomalies in a well-known background from noisy first-arrival traveltime data. The simulation results obtained for several synthetic velocity models are better than those obtained by conventional techniques such as SIRT and confirm the usefulness of the proposed technique.
