Abstract

We propose a simple frameworkfor studying certain distributions of variables beyond time-frequencyand time-scale. When applicable, our results turn the theoryof joint distributions of arbitrary variables into an easy exerciseof coordinate transformation. While straightforward, the methodcan generate many distributions previously attainable only bythe general construction of Cohen, including distributions oftime versus inverse frequency, time versus Mellin transform (scale),and time versus chirp. In addition to providing insight intothese new signal analysis tools, warp-based distributions haveefficient implementations for potential use in applications.
