The design and implementation of two distributed routers for transputer networks are described in the paper. The routers are designed from different considerations but have a common aim-to provide a user a transparent environment independent of the underlying hardware for software development. Typical problems in such design are discussed. In particular, simulation problems in the initial design phases are outlined. A method for distributed time-management for such simulation is discussed. Since simulation and implementation languages are identical, the overhead for transporting the simulator to final implementation is negligible. Finally the simulation program has an almost one-to-one correspondence with the actual implementations. This enables us to consider the correctness issue of the programs outside the structure of the system. Initial performance figures indicated that the simulation has been done quite realistically.
