This paper describes a knowledge-based placement technique for printed wiring boards (PWB's).This technique is based on a knowledge-based clustering algorithm, in which the knowledge-base can be automatically obtained from manual placement. The Clustering Values are defined to represent intimacy between elements. This paper also explains placement procedure, which is originally based on the conventional techniques, and applied to this system.Experimental results have proved that generated placements have had the similar quality to the manual design.
