Abstract

A specialist MIMD parallel processing computer has been constructed for high speed simulation of neural network systems. Custom-designed integrated circuits have been combined with conventional microprocessors to give a machine which is highly tuned for neural network computations but which runs a wide range of commercial software packages. In addition, an operating system is presented which assists in the partitioning of problems and allows code which has been developed remotely to be run in parallel on the machine without modification. The machine is intended for research purposes, particularly where large quantities of data need to be processed (e.g. in image processing applications).
