Abstract

Pharma, a drugstore chain in Japan, has beenremarkably successful in the effective use of data mining. Fromover one tera bytes of sales data accumulated in databases, ithas derived much interesting and useful knowledge that in turnhas been applied to produce profits. In this paper, we shallexplain several interesting cases of knowledge discovery atPharma. We then discuss the innovative features of the datamining system developed in Pharma that led to meaningfulknowledge discovery.
