Abstract

This paper presents a stereotype-based user model foradaptive hypermedia systems. We use a suitablealgebraic fuzzy structure which can adequately reflectsome features of the user in the model, and apply thismodel to adapt the navigation and the content ofhypermedia nodes to the user‘s needs. The modelincludes temporal representations of the user andapproximates every real user by a set of stereotypes, from which the one realizing the best approximationcan always be extracted. The set of stereotypes is thesupport set of the structure and the operationsdefined therein may be supplied with adequatesemantics which allow for the selection of thestereotype.
