Abstract

In a radio communication environment, no matterwhether signal is transmitted outdoors or indoors, thephenomenon of multipath interference is unavoidable. Therefore, it is necessary for us to thoroughly studythe effect of multipath interference on cellularmobile systems. In this paper, we first investigatethe effect of multipath interference on theperformance of a single cell system with finite users. In order to use the Markov chain method, a systemmodel with 2-dimensional state vector is presented. With his model, the system performance under multipathinterference has been successfully derived. Next, anextended-slot method to reduce the multipathinterference triggered by LOS packets occurring in theprevious slot is proposed. Numerical results show thatthis method can remarkably enhance the systemperformance. Finally, we further analyze the combinedeffect of co-channel interference and multipathinterference on the performance of multicell systems.Numerical results show that the system performancesuffers some degradation compared to the single cellenvironment. However, the degradation under typicalenvironments with path-loss exponent around 4 isinsignificant.
