The Graphical Kernel System (GKS), published in 1985, was the first ISO standard for computer graphics programming. The first revision of GKS, termed GKS-94 was completed during 1994 and the new standard (ISO/IEC 7942-1:1994) was published in November 1994. This paper summarizes the major features of the revision and describes the results of one experimental implementation of part of the new functionality.
