Abstract

In this work, we propose a new approach to piecewise linear approximation for perspectively correct rendering. Contrary to traditional scanline-based interpolation, our method operates by triangle subdivision. We derive error bounds between perspective mapping and its linear approximation on triangles. Further, we introduce several subdivision-based algorithms for triangle rendering that reduce the number of perspective divisions by several orders of magnitude and approximate the perspective mapping to any degree of accuracy. Finally, we compare these algorithms against each other for practical use.
