Abstract

The primary purpose of medical education is the learning of problem solving (diagnosis) and problem management (therapy) based on a large background of knowledge and experience, and on examination of individual patients. Throughout this learning process, images and visualization form an essential component of the learning content. When we introduce technology into the learning process, we can take advantage of this vast quantity of visual material to make learning more efficient and more engaging. Almost every imaging modality and type of visualization finds a place in the teaching of medicine. This tutorial surveys the imaging modalities used in medical education today.
