We have been cooperating with remote partner companies and managing software quality with a cross-company team organization, competitions among sub-teams, postmortem analysis, and an experience repository. The practices have built good relationships with partner companies, motivated the engineers, and established a quality control process for developing highly reliable software. No more than two field defects for any product have been reported for the last 24 months. This paper describes how our practices improved our processes and the quality of the products.
