Abstract

This paper describes the British Computer Society/British Aerospace (BAe) Programming Competition and presents the questions from the 1988 final. It discusses how their emphasis has changed from purely speed programming to a fuller assessment, under contest conditions, of the professional skills needed by practicing computer scientists.
