The cryptographic concept of digital signatures is well suited to image watermarking for authentication and integrity verification. However, the peculiar nature of watermarks demands special care in the application of digital signatures for this purpose. In this paper we cryptanalyze a recently proposed watermarking scheme and show how it can be strengthened to thwart our attacks, exploring the use of signature algorithms based on elliptic curve cryptography.
