We present a novel algorithm for encoding the topology of triangular meshes. A sequence of edge contractions collapses the entire mesh into a single vertex. This process implicitly creates a tree of triangulations. The topology of the mesh can be reconstructed from associated code words stored in the nodes of this tree.
