Abstract

Techniques and tools like prototyping, high-level languages and the spreading use of PCs are changing the traditional role of a System Analyst. The application of these tools and techniques to structured systems analysis will successfully allow an analyst to build interactive working models (i.e., prototypes) for testing user requirements at an early stage of the system specification. Therefore an emerging new information system professional, here designated “Prototyping Analyst”, is foreseen. He/she must become an expert on the use of these new tools and techniques for improving the development of an information system in useful time.An illustrative example is developed to demonstrate how prototyping can be used to facilitate structured systems analysis.
