Workflow technology is an important area of electronic commerce. The mobile agent paradigm offers a possible abstraction for flexible, adaptive, and dynamically extensible intra- and inter-organizational (even across the Internet) workflow systems. This paper describes two ideas we are exploring for mobile agent based distributed workflow enactment: an algebra of agent itineraries and its correspondence to workflow specifications, and a mobile agent control center for managing agents enacting workflows.
