Similar to the integrated design of industrial control systems, including the process and the controller at once, the integration of the design has to simultaneously consider the controller design and its implementation. The resultant effect in the time constraints of the control requirements should be considered and balanced with the availability of real-time computational resources. The adequate design of the real-time system may reduce these undesirable effects. The analysis of this interaction as well as some techniques to develop a joint design of the control system and its real-time implementation are analyzed. Some examples point out the effectiveness of this methodology.
