Adaptation of Information Systems Development (ISD) methods has been a very important issue as it promises 'making a method work for a project situation' rather then bringing on 'hard-constraints' for practitioners. This is especially true for those organizations that target a business centered system development in new application domains. The goal of this paper is to show the best practices pertaining to tailoring a method on project-by-project basis in an organization. The best practices regarding tailoring a method correspond to some of the activities defined in Software Product Engineering, one of the key process areas in CMM Level 3. The paper also addresses a model available in method engineering domain as an underlying rationale behind the best practices used in the organization. By doing so, we intend to show how the best practices are backed by a theory and what possible enhancements in the area of ISD are foresighted in the coming future in the organization.
