Abstract

Grid computing is becoming a mainstream technologyfor large-scale distributed resource sharing and systemintegration. Workflow management is emerging as one ofthe most important grid services. In this work, aworkflow management system for grid computing, calledGridFlow, is presented, including a user portal andservices of both global grid workflow management andlocal grid sub-workflow scheduling. Simulation, execution and monitoring functionalities are provided atthe global grid level, which work on top of an existingagent-based grid resource management system. At eachlocal grid, sub-workflow scheduling and conflictmanagement are processed on top of an existingperformance prediction based task scheduling system. Afuzzy timing technique is applied to address newchallenges of workflow management in a cross-domainand highly dynamic grid environment. A case study isgiven and corresponding results indicate that local andglobal grid workflow management can coordinate witheach other to optimise workflow execution time and solveconflicts of interest.
