The information universe provides the highest common framework found in all organizational information systems combining data models, business rules, organizational roles, and the members of an organization. The conceptual model of development shows that a vertical dimension to design and implementation leads to an extensible and object oriented domain model. Extensibility and the object oriented paradigm are important to provide an application environment that can rapidly change to meet new demands and provide a consistent model across all applications within an organization. The interoperability and extensibility are crucial factors to providing applications that can accommodate change and avoid obsolescence.
