'User-friendly' is one of the more popular buzz-words currently in vogue within the information-processing community. Everyone pays lip service to the idea that building user-friendly systems is a good thing, but people are a little more vague about what this really means and how it can be accomplished. This paper suggests some of the key factors which make a system user-friendly, and presents ways in which this objective can be achieved. The bibliography contains several references that are specifically of use to the APL programmer, as well as many of more general interest.
