Abstract

Significant research has been conducted at the Programming Language-Microprogramming (PL-M) interface. The purposes of this paper are to (1) review some of this work, (2) provide some definitions and background information concerning these two disciplines, and (3) suggest potential areas for future work. The topics at the Programming Language - Microprogramming interface that have received most attention are: Programming Language implementations using Microprogramming, the development of languages for writing microprograms, and the application of Programming Language processing techniques to Microprogramming. At the PL-M interface, we may view the digital computer system implementation as being structured into several levels
