Abstract

A special purpose Data Base Machine (DBM) designed to translate queries between data models is examined. The DBM will provide a means of direct communication between different DBMSs in a distributed database system. The design utilizes the concept of parallelism to handle simultaneous queries and to improve the performance of the translation with respect to cost and time. The components of the DBM are described and an example is provided to illustrate the stages of the query translation utilizing the proposed DBM.
