Computer assisted operation planning systems win moreand more recognition in the field of surgery. Thesesystems offer new possibilities to prepare an interventionwith the goal to shorten the expansive time in theoperation room required for the intervention. The safestand most effective surgical approach should be selected. But often, it is difficult to transfer the output of theplanning system to the intra-operative situation and so toconsider the planning results in the real intervention. Atthe Fraunhofer Institute for Computer Graphics (IGD) inDarmstadt and the Centre for Advanced MediaTechnology (CAMTech) in Singapore, methods aredeveloped to bridge the gap between the externalplanning session and the intra-operative case: AugmentedReality (AR) techniques are used to overlap preoperativescanned image data as well as results of the planningsession to the operation field.
