Abstract

This paper presents a two-phase handoff managementscheme for synchronization algorithms of wireless multimediasystems. This scheme allows mobile hosts to receivemultimedia units without delivery interruption while theyare moving from one cell to another cell. The messagespassing among mobile hosts, base station and servers includea time stamp to compute delay time for each multimediaunit for each server. The scheme always search fora Quasi-receiver among base stations with which mobilehosts are communicating to synchronize multimedia units.We discuss the algorithms and also present a set of simulationexperiments to evaluate the performance of our schemeusing message complexity and buffer usage at each framearrival time. Our results indicate that our scheme exhibitsno underflow within the bounded delivery time.
