Abstract

This paper studies the problem of updates in decentralisedand self-organising P2P systems in which peershave low online probabilities and only local knowledge. The update strategy we propose for this environment isbased on a hybrid push/pull rumor spreading algorithmand provides a fully decentralised, efficient and robust communicationscheme which offers probabilistic guaranteesrather than ensuring strict consistency. We describe ageneric analytical model to investigate the utility of ourhybrid update propagation scheme from the perspective ofcommunication overhead.
