We introduce a novel passive network monitoring archi-tecture which enables us to capture and integrate data fromdifferent evels of the protocol stack using a probe whichcan be placed at any arbitrary point in the network.Wesubject the data gathered to off-line analysis and show how,by modelling the dynamics of the protocols observed, weare able to extract information which would not be avail-able using existing means.In this paper, we show how thetechnique can be used to passively measure Web Server re-sponse latency.Experiments are described which use artifi-cially generated loads to validate the techniques used, andresults obtained from the observation of real traffic are pre-sented.
