This study is a cross-cultural GSS field investigationwhich compared group productivity levels and participationequity perceptions within and between U.S. and Mexicangroups. Two identical field studies were undertaken atmatched U.S. and Mexican sites to measure the effects ofnational culture (77.S'. and Mexican) upon group productivitylevels and perceptions of participation equip within GS'S andnon-GSS environments. Across both cultures, results indicatethat U.S. and Mexican GSS groups generated more ideas perparticipant than traditional manual groups. In all but onecategory, both U.S. and Mexican (33' groups also generatedmore "unique" or non-redundant ideas per group. Acomparison between cultures reported that U.S. groupsgenerated more comments per participant and more uniqueideas per group than Mexican groups when the identity of theparticipants was not anonymous. U.S. groups reported nodifferences in perceived participation equity betweentreatments, while Mexican GSS groups reported higherperceived participation equality than Mexican manual groups.A comparison study revealed that Mexican GSS groupsperceived higher participation equip levels than U.S. GS'S'groups with main effects recorded for the cultural factor.
