Abstract

In the new era of electronic commerce, with its efficiencyand globalization of communication, the ability to quicklycreate mutually beneficial contracts will become a criticalsuccess factor for organizations. Unfortunately, volatilecomplex markets demand dynamic deal making not effectivelyaddressed by current technologies. Intermediarieswill provide a solution for organizations by efficiently applyingspecialized knowledge to product value chains, aboveand beyond the costs they impose. More specifically, electronicbrokers will provide automated assistance for electroniccontracting through knowledge 0$ (1) the market, (2)requirements analysis, and {3) negotiation. Herein, we motivatethe need for an intermediary contract broke~ definerequirements of an automated broker and illustrated ourprototype, called APPLET DEALMAKEK with an examplefrom the domain of electronic software applet contracting.The prototype demonstrates how the automated applicationof contracting knowledge-especially contract restructuring-can assist users in deriving mutually beneficial deals.
