We proposed a method for recognizing matrices whichcontain abbreviation symbols, and a format for representingthe structure of matrices, and reported experimental resultsin our paper [1]. The method consisted of 4 processes;detection of matrices, segmentation of elements, constructionof networks and analysis of the matrix structure. Inthe paper, our work was described with a focus on the constructionof networks and the analysis of the matrix structure. However, we concluded that improvements in the othertwo processes were very important for obtaining a high accuracyrate for recognition. In this paper, we describe thetwo improved processes, the detection of matrices and thesegmentation of elements, and we report the experimentalresults.
