Skewscope is a software module designed to detect andanalyze skew information of textual document images. Itsskew detection algorithm, which is the major topic of thispaper, directly computes the slopes of all unique pairs ofcomponents and draws skew information from theirdistribution profile. Its validity is examined by using thecomplete set of University of Washington EnglishDocument Image Database I as ground truth. Itsutilization of both the foreground and the backgroundcomponents is also discussed.
