The ability to provide integration between businessfunctions that may be supported across multipleapplications is a critical need for modern organizations.However, problems often emerge from overly ambitious orimprecise requirements resulting from inadequate plans forintegrating different systems (legacy or otherwise). Thispaper analyzes the field of enterprise integration andprovides an analysis of the extent of the problem andcurrent trends that address the problem. It identifies gaps inthe field, outstanding research issues, and provides aninitial roadmap toward a solution.
